Capresso Infinity Conical Burr Grinder Review

Capresso Infinity is a family of grinders that are solidly built, easy to use and run quietly. Sporting a compact design, intuitive controls and sleek look, they offer excellent features without being heavy on the pocket.

Capresso Infinity Burr Grinder Models and Quality

The commercial grade steel burrs used in Infinity grinders are sturdy and reliable. It is claimed that they are hand assembled with a tolerance of 0.1mm. This means they interlock with very high precision and produce grinds that are very consistent. The grinders run at the speed of 420 rpm, which is achieved with a gear reduction motor. The reduced speed of motor ensures there will be no overheating of the beans and nominal friction. The slow grinding speed also ensures that all the aroma and flavour of the beans ends in your cup and does not get burned during grinding.

Hopper

The hopper is able to hold a little over eight ounces of coffee beans while the ground holder is smaller with a capacity of four ounces. Although this may seem small, you have to remember that the whole idea of fresh grounds implies immediate consumption. Grinding large quantities of beans and allowing the grounds to sit means greater chances of them going stale. Additionally, the grinder is intended for home use and not office or a commercial setting.

Grind Sizes

Grind size is a vital component of any grinder. After all, you do not want to limit yourself to only a single way of preparing coffee. The Infinity grinder offers sixteen grind settings and covers grind sizes appropriate for everything from the extra fine grinds needed for Turkish coffee, to fine grinds suitable for espresso and off course the course grinds for French press. There is no limit to the ways in which you can prepare your favourite beverage.

Timed Dosage Feature

The quantity of grinds is another vital component in making a great tasting cup of coffee. Grinding more beans than you need means you will either be wasting the extra or your next cup will not be as fresh as it can be. To help manage the quantity of beans you grind, a timer with a range from 5 to 60 seconds is used. While not the most sophisticated method, it is definitely better than just pressing the grind button for a random amount of time. With a little experimentation, you can soon become an expert at determining the amount of time needed for your most loved type of coffee.

Cleaning

The upper portion of the conical burr comes out easily for cleaning. The burrs are fairly easy to clean, with not too many grinds sticking to the burrs or the grind chute. However, there is an issue with the darker beans, being more oily they stick a good bit and the machine requires more thorough cleaning. It should be remembered that this holds true for most grinders and is not a fault with the grinder.

Capresso Infinity: 565 vs 560 models

The Capresso Infinity 560 and 565 are identical in the features they offer. Their main difference lies in the exterior finish they offer. The 560 houses the same high quality steel burrs found in the 565, the same slow speed movement of the grinders to maintain the integrity of the beans. Both grinders offer same timer feature and same grind size settings as well as hand-made steel conical burrs. The body of the 560 is crafted out of ABS plastic, as a result it weighs a little less than the 565. Since it is lighter in weight, it tends to move a bit while grinding. It is also a bit nosier than the 560, but definitely much quieter than other grinders in similar price range and quality.

The Capresso 560 is constructed out of heavy-duty, die-cast zinc with a silver finish and gives the unit a more modern, sleek look. Due to the use of zinc, it weighs more with the net result that is does not move while in use. The difference in material also subdues the sound more.

Final Word

Overall the Capresso Infinity grinders are excellent machines for the price. Granted there are differences, but not when it comes to their performance. This is due to the high quality parts used where it counts. There is no doubt, that the steel finish of the 565 is much more appealing and if you can afford to pay the extra amount, it should be the first choice. However, if the budget is limited, then the 560 performs equally well, and comes with a smaller price tag.
